making it

A woman in a meeting the other night said that we’re not supposed to make it. Alcoholics and addicts – we’re not supposed to recover.  I like this thought. It drives me sometimes, reminds me how hard I have to work to make it. Of the forty people with me at rehab, I think I’m the only one who didn’t relapse, and that’s not surprising and that’s not just because it’s hard. We’re not supposed to make it. I’m glad she said it.
